|
|
My question is there a "Sea Creature detractor" to alert Sea Creatures, while I’m on foil? Might there be a Foil manufacture or maybe somebody in this forum, working on a possible "detractor"? I passionately feel that foil manufactures should also be working on this solution/problem- since making products safer for the environment probably is part of their company moto.
It appears that when I’m up on foil, I am completely silent to all Sea Creatures in the ocean (fish, shark(s), turtle(s), dolphin(s)). They only are aware of me when I am just about completely on top of them. When I do observe them, I drop down quickly from foil and ensure I make lots of noise with my wind foil board hitting the water. With dolphins, I just chill for a long while, because I notice if I witness one dolphin there will be many more - very shortly. I take it all in and appreciate the beauty that I am a part of. I don’t want to harm a single creature, while I’m out foiling.
In the 1980's their use to be "deer detractors" that were placed on the front to car bumpers- whether they worked, I'm certain is still questionable.

I leave a piece of foil retainer dangling in the water, making a swishing sound on windfoil.
For wing, my foils all seem to hum just a but, especially when power loaded, announcing my coming presence.
Does your leashes dangle on and off the water when you're up?

I am a windfoiler.
I do not have a foil retainer. Is a foil retainer a tether that is attached the foil and the board, in case there is physical separation? I use to worry about that but after hitting abandoned in place crab pots, and suffering from +1-month whip-lash. I’m confident no separation between board and foil will happen, my head and neck will be the first thing to separate – I also ride with no foot straps on my board.
My foil is all carbon, except for the fuselage = I do not experience any type of vibration or humming. You might be on to something; with the noise you are experiencing—is you foil mast aluminum?

Just cut through 3/4 of the 4 bolts that hold your mast plate to the board
before you insert them. That should "detract" from your collision experience
significantly and save those poor sea creatures. Whitey will appreciate it.

Big harbor seal spotted at inside Berkeley on Sat. Maybe 4' long and easy 40+ lbs.
Was wing slogging out as it passed under my board, did not touch.
Both my 1572 and 2140 foils make a low frequency hummmmm. when up to speed. Will try a straight ankle leash next sesh.
