|
|
Looking for some guidance on spots to learn to foil, particularly on SW
Forest Beach? - I've heard there are a lot of rocks & unmarked mooring blocks. Go around high tide only or is low ok?
Pleasant Bay - great on NE at Jackknife. SW can be a little fickle on the wind strength. Launch from the bridge on 28 for SW? Other ideas?
West Dennis - avoid low tide I assume. Same with Kalmus?
Any other ideas for a SW between Forest and West Dennis that isn't so tide dependent?
Any other spots you'd recommend?
Thanks! |

Kalmus can be foiled at any tide level ... if you know where the shallows are, have a 75 cm or shorter mast, and are willing to walk a bit. Near high tide, you can foil with a 90 cm mast from very close to shore. I usually use a 85-90 cm mast from mid-tide on, and a 71 cm mast for shallower water.
Once you have somewhat stable flights and can go upwind, Kalmus works in all wind directions for foiling. Offshore directions are gustier, but the water is flat to very flat. In the off season, the Lewis bay side can be quite good, but no launching there until after Labor Day. Too many boats now, anyway. |

WD they have blocked off parking where you can launch. So have to park on the other side of the Bath Room. If its a nice beach day, even that is tough to find a parking spot. |

Thanks for the info! I hit WD on sunday in the 25-30 mph wind. Pretty wavey and challenging, but high tide, so no problems there
Anyone ever try Pleasant St beach in Chatham, by the Chatham Tides motel? Wondering if that has fewer underwater obstacles compared with Forest |

Pleasant St beach puts you right in the middle of the Rock Garden. _________________ www.Clew-View.com

Long time, no post, waterkook. Hope all is well.
Talked windsurfing with several folks on cape this summer, and your name came up in every conversation. Does everyone know you on the cape? Quite famous in the ws circle. |

This group really seems dialed on the windsports in the area. I am moving from the Gorge and need local info. Trying to decide if windsurfing is reasonable out there knowing I don't want to sail to use a 5.2 or smaller. The other option is learning to wing in the Gorge this summer so I dialed for the east coast in the fall. Any help would be greatly appreciated if you could message me. Thanks. Peace. |

We usually get consistent summer wind from the sw. This past year not so much. Im 175 lbs without wetsuit and 5.3 is usually my big sail.
