I've just seen the videos of the Wind Weapon of Tom Magruder. This wing pivoting on the mast looks interesting. Is it commercially available? I checked the www,thirdcoastkites.com. site, but I cannot access it.
Anything similar on the market? Has anybody tried it? Comments ?
Thanks

You have to able to go back in time to the late 80s to get that stuff. |

And frankly, while the precursor to todays Wing Foils, at the time they were
mated to a windsurf board. They really needed todays foil technology to be
a public accessible product. In the late 80s they were neither as efficient
sailing, nor as efficient flying as a windsurfing rig. A brilliant (Tom Magruder)
idea which is only now realizable.
Like Steve says, if you want to experience Wind Weapons as they were initially
intended, you're going to have to travel faster than the speed of light for some
duration. Or get in touch with Tom or his brother. I bet they're still alive.

Framed wings are still available (though without the mast).

We have a very dedicated group of framed-wing sailors here in the North East. |

Honestly, back when they were first introduced, they were paired with windsurf boards. Now, they're known as Wing Foils. For today's foil technology to be available to the public, it was absolutely necessary. They weren't as efficient when sailing or flying as a windsurfing rig in the late 80s. Something Tom Magruder came up with brilliantly that is only now becoming a reality. mini crossword |
